I don't want to put anything in the config file.  I want the install
program to, right before it starts the node for the first time, to
present the user with a dialog asking where to save the node's
reference, and recommending that they give it to other people for when
they install.

And I say it shouldn't be because I don't think that client programs are
going to need the local node's reference; they're already connected to
it and accessing freenet just fine.  It's useful as a file so that you
can attach that file to an e-mail for sending to people or for things
like that in terms of giving the ref to people.
