Hi everyone,

Recently there has been the idea of redesigning the Freenet website
raised in this mailing list by Alabaster. I have teamed up with him to
give any help I can making a new redesigned website for the Freenet
project. Alabaster has kindly set up a temporary space for the site to
be worked on. The address is http://freenet.winterfellstudios.net/
Please note that anything already up is just a basic outline. The main
things we have decided to concentrate on for the time being is:

. Design and layout - something more welcoming and less dark
. Improve site organisation
. Add forums
. Retain any current mailing lists
. Improve and expand user documentation

For the site it will be done using php. Alabaster seems very experienced
with that and has done some good work. I myself will be concentrating on
the organisation and user documentation plus also adding any feedback
where needed. For the organisation of the site I've narrowed it down to
these five headings.

. Freenet - will contain the stable release download client,
documentation, philosophy, papers etc
. Applications - will be especially for applications designed for
freenet such as Frost. This will ensure that applications get good
publicity and hopefully don't die out. My suggestion would be to have
application listings similar to what Zeropaid.com has.
. Developers - will be especially for the development of the freenet
client and also offer help to people developing applications on Freenet.
It will also contain useful documentation.
. Community - will contain things such as the Forums, contact lists and
mailing lists.
. Donations - information on how you can help out the Freenet Project be
it helping with the development or donating money. Also contain
information on how the money will be put to use.

What I would really like to hear is your feedback and any discussion on
what you feel should be included in the website. We would of course
welcome any help with the site be it designing graphics, coding,
documentation etc.

Looking forward to your feedback,

Simon Porter
