First of all, thanks everyone for your responses. 

Yes, the first part of my question was deliberately naïve just to make sure I 
did not miss anything too obvious. Some good did come out of it :)

Let me be clearer on what I am trying to do:

I am trying to create an app where I can 

a. Define my own composite object and save it as an object(icon) in my own sheet
b. Drag and drop the object from the sheet into the canvass and have it expands 
out as a collection of objects. 
c. Reduce clutter in the screen by creating composite objects, such that when 
double-clicked, will open a new layer or a sheet. This way, the sheets can 
remain generally hierarchical, and easy to navigate.

Of course, I understand this is indeed wishful, but it doesn't hurt to ask if 
it's already possible or in the works.

Once again, everything so far is much appreciated.

Good idea. The trunk version now shows the context menu also for multiple 
selected objects:
