First of all, grab dia-0.84, as it fixes the crash you describe, among
other things.

With the ethernet shape, middle click on it to bring up the object menu.
>From there you should be able to add/remove connections.

It may be worth converting some of the existing network shapes to use the
custom shape code and add more connection points for future releases.

As for the lack of network shapes, the best way to correct this is to
learn about how to create new custom shapes (see the doc/custom-shapes
file in the dia distribution).  I can add them to the dia distribution if
you like.
