I'd like to announce that the Floaters Organization has taken another
step forward.

This time, our "floating" technology integration project is opening
its doors on terra firma, with a six-month agreement to begin our own
CTC. (In the past we have focused on home-based technology integration
or built CTC's for other groups.) We have been given funding for six
months, and from there on plan to pay the rent, and a stipend to
staff, by offering modestly priced tech support. All other services
(computer use, classes, wireless Internet) will be free, along with
soup and coffee when they are hot.

The Floaters Organization has been quietly bringing people and
technology together since 1995. We use grassroots networking, peer
mentoring, and consensus decision making. Because we have grown
slowly, member skills are solid. We can write academic papers AND fix
computers.
And we think that our methods are worth emulating.

Last time I wrote with such news, we had just moved from home-based
technology integration to putting together our first CTC, with a small
grant, for a Baptist mission. We set it up, learned from our mistakes,
set up another one (again for someone else and without pay) and now
have our own!

Visit us if you are ever in Tempe, Arizona.
