Rene, Almost any of the 'Live CDs' such as Knoppix can install on that system. That's probably the easiest way to get Linux running on the system - with a bonus; you can check if it works on the system beforehand.
There's also DamnSmallLinux (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/) which is '50 megs of Penguin Power'. I used it a few times. As far as Linux becoming bloatware... I agree. It appears bloatware is the natural evolution of an operating system.
