Meh, no. The root cause trifecta is:

A. People not caring enough about their own craft to actually TRY to learn how to do it right.

B. HR people who know nothing about the domain they're hiring for.

C. Overall societal reliance on schooling systems that:

    - Know little about teaching and learning,

    - Even less about software development,

- And can't even decide whether their priorities should be "pure theory *without* sufficient practical" or "catering to the above-mentioned HR folk's swing-and-miss, armchair-expert attempts at defining criteria for identifying good programmers" (Hint: The answer is "neither").
