My printer problems ended (mostly) when I finally spent the bux and got

Now this surprises me, printing has been the least painless thing I've
ever encountered - it's the one area I'd say Linux excels. In OS X or
Windows if I want to access my networked printer there's at least 5
clicks involved - on Linux there was a grand total of 0 - it detected my
printer and installed it with no intervention from me, I just clicked
print and it worked.
Guess that's the problem with hardware though, it could have a few
thousand good reviews and you could still manage to get something you
run into endless issues with!
This really depends on your printer, some have good Linux support and
some don't.
Postscript-support (mostly seen in better Laser printers) is probably
most painless (just supply a PPD - if CUPS doesn't have one for your
printer anyway - and you're done).
But also many newer inkjet printers have Linux support, but many need a
proprietary library from the vendor to work.
But a few years ago it was a lot worse, especially with cheap inkjets.
Many supported only GDI printing which naturally is best supported on
Windows (GDI is a windows interface).
