The signals are sinusoids none the less, but maybe FMing a base band square wave would do the trick. This would in effect be FSK. I did try it out, with sinusoidal modulation and did get an envelope, one cause of that envelope would be group delay, but I think that the frequency response of the receiver circuits would make an envelope looking display.
