Thanks for the input, Dave. It looks like this would do fine for
AFSK, but I'm trying to key FSK so I can use the filters inherent in the
RTTY mode of my 746 (non-Pro). The CI-V cable won't key FSK, which
leaves me with using Jack J7 on the 232. Running pin 1 of J7 to Pin 1 of
the ACC1 jack on the 746 should control RTTY keying (with pin2 GND to
pin2 GND, of course).
I have communications between the PC and 232, and the 232 shows it's
keying, yet the rig does not go to transmit mode. I'm either missing a
setting somewhere in WinWarbler, or a setting in the 232. I pulled the
cable and double checked it, and it's perfect, so not much else left.
Using WinWarbler to key AFSK works perfectly, by the way with the
CI-V, but as I have no filters installed in the 746, the narrower
bandwidth in RTTY mode compared to USB mode makes it much better.
Tnx es 73 - All input appreciated!

There are two ways to do this, Dave.
1. connect the PTT signal generated by the PK-232 (pin 5 of its J4
and J6 radio port connectors) to your 746's SEND input (pin 3 of both
ACC-1 and ACC-2). The 746 wants SEND grounded to transmit, which is
what I assume the PK-232 considers "negative PTT" --t I'd either
check the PK-232 schematic or measure the voltage levels with a scope
or meter before making the connection.
2. let WinWarbler handle the task of switching your transceiver
between RX and TX
Most WinWarbler ops (including me) choose #2, since it covers PSK and
CW as well as RTTY.
WinWarbler can use a serial port modem control signal (RTS or DTR)
driving an external level converter to switch your 746 between RX and
TX. Chose the RTS or DTR options on the PTT tab of WinWarbler's
Configuration window, and select the appropriate serial port on that
same tab.
Your746 can be switched between RX and TX via CI-V commands, so
another approach would be to install Commander, configure it to
control your IC-746 via a serial port and CI-V level converter, and
then configure WinWarbler to use Commander for PTT by chosing
the "Xcvr Ctrl SW" option on the PTT tab of WinWarbler's
Configuration window.
If you need additional help with this, Dave, don't hesitate to ask.
