I have a whole bunch of digital mode software, beacon monitors, log book,
station monitor, radio control etc.etc. Currently all of it runs under Windows
XP on my laptop.

For my next ham related PC purchase I am considering having Ubuntu as the base
Linux distro and then running either:
1. a virtualised copy of the existing XP environment in a VM, or
2. running the individual apps under WINE.

My concern is the ability of a VM or WINE to handle the serial ports and audio
board properly.

Does anybody have any practical experience of either of these options, or maybe
even further options?
