So they stay locked even if the windows aren't visible?

I haven't looked at XDirectFB sources. How much acceleration does it use
and how much is done via sw fallbacks?

That would be nice. I've been thinking about converting the driver to use
pseudo DMA but never got around to it. It could be a simple enough first
step towards real DMA.
