Ok, layman is the so-called Gentoo "overlay manager", where an "overlay" is an additional ebuild (package definition scripts) repository, diverting from the official package tree (portage tree). So in other word, layman helps Gentoo users make their systems aware of non-official packages from other repositories out there, and still use those packages in a managed way. Well, this weekend I found few time to dig further on the git ebuild problem, actually I hoped it would perfectly work now, as I was able to adapt an ebuild for DirectFB itself which successfully pulls from git, and also offers the user to supply local patches in a directory (inspired by the VDR plugin eclass). Will let you know when I'mfinished with the most important ebuilds (right now, I'm having some problems with the one for linux-fusion, but the other oones should work...)
