I have managed to get create rpms of most DirectFB packages for RH9, and have repackaged a patched kernel with /dev/fusion, and bootsplash support. But I am comming to realize that RH did not really intend this kernel to be good for /dev/fb support, in that the fb drivers either do not seem to be compiled in propperly or they are nonexistant (rivafb...). Q) Would it be best to use a 2.4 series kernel or a 2.5 series kernel for DirectFB (in terms of best fb drivers available)?
So far I have just managed to get DirectFB, and most of it's libraries rpm'd, except libmpeg3 support. I have rpm'd libmpeg3 ok, but I cannot seem to get DirectFB to find the headers (the CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/include/libmpeg3 does not seem to work in rpm's). But then again these are the first rpm's I have ever built. My next milestones are to rpm gtk2, and XDirectFB. Q) Do these packages co exist happily? Can I launch gtk-directfb based apps from XDirectFB? Am I best just using the XDirectFB support for gtk? I have repackaged a few RH9 cd's to include apt-get, red-carpet, and a few other things without probs, and my final aim would be to produce a RH9 based distro, based on gtk-directfb by default (and maybe XDirectFB for comatibility). Q) Has anybody got gdm to run through gtk-directfb? Or will it only run through XDirectFB without code changes?
