Hi Nicolas

I looked at the screenshot and now i'm really interested in having a 
look at the patches required by libxfce4gui to build on top of DFB.
The DFB backend for GDK was heavily reworked this year and is now part 
of main GTK tree; it's used in the graphical debian installer (and i 
think in some linux-embedded project too) and will be maintained trough 
time.
Pheraps this justifies spending some time to having (a part of) xfce 
running on top of a DFB based system.
Mike Emmel, GDKDFB maintainer, is close to get a working GDK port of the 
gtkwebcore browser, which togheter with (a subset of) xfce could be the 
base for a small X-less desktop system.
