I have two M1000s. Also there seems to be significant peformance difference. df_flip is 10fps with the non-working one but 60fps with the working M10000.
The 10fps is a symptom of no vsync interrupts being received by the framebuffer driver. (The wait for vsync calls have a 0.1sec timeout). But why that would happen I don't know. If you've two machines and one works and the other doesn't, your best bet must be to find out what the difference is. I notice that your two machines were using different framebuffer modes for starters. Before you go much further, have you tried power cycling your non-working box? Also, you mention vertical white stripes. Are these visible even before you run any DirectFB app or do you get a normal console initially when viafb is loaded? M.
