I don't think the TLD is meaningless at all.  It simply conveys a different
meaning/feeling.

I've definitely typed .net and .ca when i couldn't find a site i was looking
for in the .com realm.  Of course the extension has an affect on the domain
name.  

Swerve.Com  has a certain feel/meaning.
Swerve.Net  has a different feel/meaning.
Swerve.Org  has yet another feel/meaning.

Swerve.TV  and yet another.

In some ways it's a very complex matter, imo.  The more open the namespace
the better.

Of course the content of the site, or the philosophy behind the
organization/company affects our relationship to it as well.

 Greenpeace.com ??  don't work for me.  Greenpeace.Org   ...yup.
