OpenSSL can do the job fine.  Every secure server I've ever set up used
OpenSSL (formerly SSLeay).  I ran secure servers on Linux and FreeBSD. 
The reason there are commercial tools available is that they usually
make it easier to implement the secure server and come with technical
support.
