OpenSSL is mainly a tool for managing certs for SSL.
For a SSL server, one should consider Apache mod_ssl
http://www.modssl.org or apache-ssl from apache-ssl.org

Both have how-to's. If you have FreeBSD, just download and install
the appropriate ports. Be sure you check regarding local legalities
before using them.

For certs consider:
http://www.versign.com - expensive, related to netsol
http://www.thawte.com - less expensive, owned by verisign
http://www.equifax.com - even less expensive, but second level
certs from the thawte root, subject to disappear at any time.

Sorry to say, the state of certs is VERY poor, with only one
company controlling the whole bloody mess. But you'll need a cert
from a trusted source which is included in IE and Netscape.
