Tucows launches registry management solution. Leading registrar to test
new Tucows OpenXRS with mock Top Level Domain.
New York, NY - August 1, 2000 - Tucows Inc., a leading distributor of

domain name registrars, has launched an open demonstration environment for
its new Tucows OpenXRS (Open Extensible Registry System) registry
management solution. OpenXRS (http://openxrs.tucows.com) is the first
widely available commercial solution for organizations that manage
registry operations for Top Level Domains (TLDs), including any of the
hundreds of country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) or the new gTLDs
anticipated from ICANN this fall.
Tucows OpenXRS gives its customers all the tools they need to easily and
effectively operate their own domain name registry - interfacing with
thousands of registrars and managing millions of names and transactions.
Leveraging the success of its OpenSRS wholesale domain name registration
service, Tucows created OpenXRS to incorporate the best of breed in
functionality, scalability and reporting.
In order to demonstrate OpenXRS, Tucows has made itself the official
registry for .moo, a mock TLD, allowing visitors to register and manage
.moo domain names at http://moo.tucows.com/. This allows potential
OpenXRS customers to experience first-hand the same features they and
their registrars would be able to offer real customers for real TLDs,
including DNS resolution and whois services. Registration and maintenance
of .moo domain names are, of course, free, but .moo names do not actually
