I disagree.  My general rule of thumb is to set the TTL to the
smallest number your service can support.  If your nameserver is not
experiencing high load from queries, then I would set the number down
to under an hour, and only increase the number in response to higher
load times.  I would stick to what Chuck said, and keep it under 6
hours, though, for reasons you stated in your email  :)

The 7 days is usually used for the expire setting, which is the time
that a secondary nameserver will carry a zone which it is unable to
get an authoritative response from the master nameserver (ok, its a
very simplistic explanation, I know).
