It is extremely misleading to quote part of a message, then use the part
quoted to misconstrue what was said in the message.

Where in my message did I state that people always go for price? Where in
my message did I suggest that there are not other ways to compete, such as
branding or offering a superior service or a different service?

If you wish to quote me, fine, but don't take the message out of context and
misconstrue what was said in the message.

Network Solutions charges $35.00 per year. They are now engaged in a
branding campaign to convince consumers that their product at $35 is better
than our product at $10. And they will convince a large percentage of the
public through their ads.

I will make the point again that I made in my previous message in the hopes
that you can understand it this time.

A price reduction of $1, $2 or even $3 will not allow you to compete with a
Registrar who is selling the domain registration service at or below cost in
order to build up a data base of future registration fees.

Even if Tucows was willing to reduce their price, which they have made clear
that they will not do, you still will not be able to compete with another
Registrar based on price.

You must compete based on service or use domain name registration as a loss
leader to attract other types of business. Which is what we do. We are
currently offering it at the cost our CPA has estimated as our cost of
providing the service, we intend to soon start giving domain name
registration free to new clients who sign up for hosting service.

It is a cheap form of advertising to attract new clients and retain existing
clients for us.

So I would suggest spending the time developing a model of domain name
registration service that is not price dependant rather than spending time
worrying about the price that others charge for the service.

McDonalds selling Big Mac's for $1.99 cannot possibly compete with
BurgerZone at the end of the street who sells a deluxe burger for $1.49

After all, people "ALWAYS" go for price.

I think there are too many techies subscribed to discuss-list, and not
enough Executives..
