Ross is right. This year has been the year from hell for the ORSC. A
major international corporation - Diebold Incorporated got involved with
the ORSC as a root server provider. This year they renegged on their
committments after a weird and bizzare set of circumstances involving the
opennic, the eff, a convicted US felone, and a post operational transgender
person. I don't really care to say more except that I own the rights to
this comedy. But I expect the ORSC will learn from it's mistakes and not
get involved again in these sort of deals. I understand they were working
with Diebold to take over PSI.net and by default one of the legacy root
servers. But alas the whole thing got out of hand - corporate greed ruled
and the ORSC has suffered because of it.
But on a brighter note - the alt.community is in the process of
establishing an independent authority which we hope will in future address
this sort of sillyness. Which see http://www.tlda.org/
