Subject: Re: register.com won't transfer a name
I was about to post about this too. As far as I can tell, transfers from
register.com just don't work right now. Here's my experience with a
batch of 8 domains (the first two paragraphs are old news for anyone
who's been reading this list for the past month or so):
First attempt: Admin didn't respond to Register.com's confirmation
e-mail -- transfer fails.
Second attempt: (After OpenSRS made it's complaint about Register.com's
confirmation e-mails) No confirmation e-mail sent by Register.com --
transfer fails.
Third attempt: I initiated the transfer and then called register.com
customer service at (800) 899-9724 (outside US/Canada: +1-212-798-9200)
(call answered immediately). I said I understand that register.com can
approve the immediate transfer of these domains (cutting short the five
day waiting period) and asked how I could get this to happen. He looked
up the previous transfer and said that the confirmation e-mail had not
been returned. When I said that none had been received, he confirmed
that the admin e-mail on file was correct (confirmation e-mails for
other changes, like nameservers, have succeeded before and after the
attempted transfers) and then said he would pass on the information to
the Transfers and Changes department, marked as urgent, and they would
call me back shortly.
Received an e-mail with a ticket number about two hours later asking me
to call the Transfers and Changes department directly at (800) 899-9704.
Busy signal -- Took about 15-20 minutes of redialing to get through. Was
on hold for over 45 minutes (I can do a great impression of the
recording about how important my call is :-) when the connection was cut
off. Haven't tried again yet. At least my wireless headset phone let me
carry on with my work -- I just had to listen to bad music while i did
it.
