Actually, the default profile information should never be handed out to
someone other than the reseller.

And I think you have never experienced the smoothness of other registries than
OpenSRS ;-)

Think you could register domains for your customers just by filling out 5 or 6
fields and manage everything via email with a known API ;-) In that case you
can easily handle all the registrations via your own database instead of
coping with frequently changing program codes.
OpenSRS is a good system if you completely delegate "domain work" to your
clients, but it's a pain to use it on a daily basis on your own.
