Greetings!
I had a fairly funny thing happen yesterday. NSI has obviously paid
some telemarketing outfit to call all domain contacts with a domain up
for renewal and let them know about a "special" they're having on
registering the .NET and .ORG suffixes of whatever domain name (with a
.COM suffix) is coming up for renewal.
It's bad enough that I get tons of spam from rinky-dink fronts for
registrars telling me to go after my jack.info or jack.biz domain name
but now I have to deal with phone calls as well?
As I am the admin contact on many of my client's domains I expect
they'll be calling me many times as these domains come up for transfer.
(Notice I didn't say renewal? :)
The first person establishes that they have the correct contact person
and then you get transferred to an account rep. who has the file/domain
information.
They went through a long spiel about how many companies will not even
register a domain name unless they can have all 3 suffixes. I asked,
"Where does it all end though?" (referring to the new suffixes of .info,
.biz et al)
They pooh-pooh'd the significance of any suffixes other than
.COM/.NET/.ORG stating that they weren't really TLD's.
She went on to say that if I renew my domain with them for 10 years I'll
not only get their maximum discount rate but also they would through in
a one year registration of the .CA version of my domain.
I told her politely that I'd have to call my contacts at OpenSRS and ask
them if they felt this was a good deal or not. Unfazed by this she said,
"Great! Could you please refer to this reference number when you call
back?" :)
So... the only question I'm wondering is...
Is one of those RSP's out there setup through OpenSRS actually NSI using
OpenSRS so they can easily register country code domains? :)
Cheers!
