Yes, I was able to figure it out. It's just that if CIRA is
going to enforce such formatting rules, they should 1) Let
people know in advance and 2) Let us know *exactly* what it is
that doesn't meet their criteria. Forcing us all into this goofy
game is just silly (and unprofessional, but I've learned that
even a modicum of professionalism is far too much to ask from
CIRA).

Well, when I do that, say change the type from "Canadian
Citizen" to "Canadian Corporation" via the drop-down and "Save
Configuration", I receive the message "Command Successfull"
(sic). But when viewing the Organization info again, the Legal
Type still defaults to "Canadian Citizen" in the drop-down. I
can't tell if that's because it's reflecting the status of the
record (in which case the change didn't "take") or because the
drop-down control always defaults to that.
Perhaps we need to take this particular problem off-list.

I imagine it did. I know this isn't a Tucows issue, and I'm not
blaming you. But seriously, the whole .ca situation is such a
mess that I try not to sell them any more. If a customer
absolutely insists, I charge by the hour, because not a single
one ever gets registered without some kind of hassle from CIRA.
I don't know why they didn't just set up a .com.ca and let
everyone and his dog register names there without citizenship
restrictions. Then CIRA's biggest problem would be how to get
all that cash to the bank. But nooooo, they set up the most
confoozling labyrinthine procedures to accomplish what we used
to do with a single email. I think the old .ca system was better
- yeah, the service was crappy and slow and the rules obscure,
but at least it was free. Now, it's crappy and slow, the rules
are even more beguiling, plus we have to pay for it!
