Hi Todd,

Briefly, the points that have previously been covered here to some length..
1/. Network Solution registrar whois - is NOT the internet gospel..  It is ONLY applicable to domain names registered through NSI.. Consewuently:
1a/. hosts registered with the Registry by other Registrars do not usually appear in NSI whois,
1b/. when domains are moved from NSI to another Registrar, NSI rarely deletes the host entries from their whois,
1c/. when IP addresses of hosts moved from NSI are changed, NSI does NOT query the Registry and update their whois..

Now, have you:
A> configured the appropriate host name & IP into the current DNS servers,
B> can you 'ping' the server using IP address and the FQDN (ie: 'ping ns1.thedomain.com')
C> have you tried 'dig' and/or 'nslookup' to access the dns server and confirm that it is working,
D> Then we start looking at whether you have created the DNS server in the OSRS Manage interface, under it's domain name,
E> and try 'dig'ing the GTLD root-servers to see if the host entries do exist..

Rgds

Subject: DNS Server Creation and Mods to same.

I have created a dns server on a domain I own. It has been several days and it is still not working. I went to Network Solutions and entered "host ns1.thedomain.com" and it comes up as record not found.. What the hell.. I need to use this name server and NSI refuses to recognize it.

Also I modified the IP address on another DNS server that we use. When I go into the Opensrs control panel it shows up with the correct IP. When I go to Network Solutions and enter "host ns1.anotherdomain.com" and it still shows the old IP.. Again it has been several days now..

So if editing and created DNS servers based on domains registered with OpenSRS does not work whatsoever then why does it exist..

Do I have to go move my domains that will have DNS Servers attached back to Network Solutions? I would hate to do that but I need my changes and creations of DNS servers to actually work..

 HELP!!

By the way, I am NOT talking about just adding the primary and secondary DNS servers that serve a domain. I am talking about actually creating a DNS server to be recognized as so called "host" by the registry etc.
