I'd be interested in knowing what's going on here as well. The domain
drops are an important source of names these days, and for OpenSRS to
be giving one party inside information, or to appear to be giving that
preferential access, seems unfair to me. The owner of DirectSeek.com,
apparently Frank Schilling, has a large portfolio of domain names, many
of which are obtained from drops. Many are "traffic catcher" names,
acquired via drop club memberships, SnapNames, etc. at the usual 2 pm
drops. They then go to "Targeted Search" pages hosted by "HostStart",
an "UltSearch" clone, essentially. Although, they're popup hell (e.g.
try visiting www.financialformula.com, a name they caught recently).

Many of their names are caught at IARegistry.net, so unless OpenSRS is
getting extra cash for these, in the long run they're not going to
benefit from this arrangement. Plus they're losing goodwill from those
who have been loyal to OpenSRS (I've moved almost all my names to
OpenSRS, even those caught elsewhere).

I agree with the original poster that there needs to be a level playing
field, and the current situation is a step in the WRONG direction.

Sincerely,

George Kirikos
