Hmm i guess it is time to vent my opinion to then, seeing as most here want
one :)
OpenSRS has become what it is today based on open source prinicples.
Those principles have stretched all the way through all parts of this
enterprise, f.i. the open contacts with management, the open developement of
software, the transparancy of the way Tucows / OpenSRS does the business and
the accountiblity when something "odd" appears.
It is absolute balony to think that when we use and have used over the years,
this list as a think tank the "competition" might run off with "our" ideas.
After all if any one of us has a "good" idea we are not immediately sharing
it with the list anyway. When a proposal comes or is discussed we are well
under way of development.
And even if the "competition" found out ("sigh") who cares. as we have proven
in the past and in current stats, despite pricing above low, we still do more
business combined then any of the other registrars.
If we believe that we can stop the competition from listening in on our ideas
whether discussed on open or closed list, we should think again, if it was
"valuable" then the limited cost of being a RSP is easily overcome and for
all we know genie is paid by Verisign, remember the good old days when a sign
hung over our doors: "Der Feind hort mit"
I am in no way under the illusion that I can "compete" with verisign, for
that I need hepl from a higher power then Scott, Chuck or Scott.
I more have a tendency of letting them watch the cooking, after all "the
secret is in the sauce" (from; "Fried Green Tomatoes")
We develop (since a few years) telephony (switching) software, open source!,
we make the difference with our service, support and final product, not the
base ingredient everyone can have.
