Sorry about that NASTY URL....if it doesn't work...just go to

http://www.usps.com and in the search box type in "false billing" you
will find the first result link is for: "False Billing Schemes Against
Business". Sounds like Verisign is the new poster boy for this kind of
scam.

In short they say,

"Notify your local postmaster or nearest Postal Inspector if you receive
a questionable invoice or have been taken in a false billing scheme.
This will help postal inspectors protect other companies with weak
controls."

All of these case should also be reported to the Better Business
Bureau...according to the Government of Canada Strategis website:

********
"Most provinces have laws that protect consumers from unfair or
deceptive practices. Generally, an unfair or deceptive practice can be
thought of as a representation that has the tendency or effect of
misleading the average person. When you believe you have been deceived,
contact your provincial or territorial consumer affairs office.

Consumers are also protected against misleading advertising.

Consumers may also contact their local Better Business Bureau, or the
Competition Bureau, unless the complaint relates to the labelling of
food, in which case contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency."
********

I'm in Canada, I don't know what good it would do to complain about an
american company sending me misleading "invoices". Actually, I have
never received any of these notices, but thought I'd speak up so people
are aware there are official places these things can be reported to.
:-)

Go get 'em!!

Subject: verisign - rip off

Got a letter in the mail today from Verisign...

"Amount due: $29.00
Pay before April 15 to avoid losing your domain name.
Pay your registration fees now."

Small print on the back of the bill notes that this will transfer my
domain to network solutions, and add a year to the registration..
Needless to say, I scribbled some not-so-nice things on the bill, and
stuffed it back in the postage paid envelope, which I will send back to
the jerks.
Unbelievable. We have customers call all the time about similar things.
Isn't this mail fraud????
Ken
