I'm not sure if this is of interest or not but if it is a random
occurrence you may not have seen this.
After transferring a number of domains from Register.com I was sent a
email asking me to complete the following questionnaire. I've labelled
each page Question 1/ etc. when in fact there are often many questions
per page. I was interested to see that they only acknowledge Tucows as
being Domain Direct and make no distinction about authorized agents. If
you are the first 100 you get a $5 amazon.com gift certificate. What a
joke! The information contained within is worth far more than $5 and
certainly there's no way of telling where you stand in the poll. Most
likely the first 100 were sent out last year sometime.
When they asked what the primary reason for the transfer to Tucows was I
was really tempted to fill in something like "because Charles is a
relentless machine working diligently for the greater good of my domain
registrations" or perhaps "because Elliott Noss understands the issues
and ethics involved in free enterprise as it applies to domain
registration far better than eNOM could ever hope to..." but I
refrained. When asked what Register.com could do to win my business
(back?) I would suggest that they "admit defeat and allow their assets
to be taken over and managed by Tucows." :)
Anyhow I'm sure it's really a ploy to state that some huge percentage of
domains were transferred from them without the "owners" knowledge. Of
course the "owner" as we all know might have very little to do with the
company's web identity and more likely there are indviduals within a
given organization who are far more involved in such matters.
I apologize that this is long but thought it might be of some value.
