While we're putting things on the record I'd like to be told once again what
the relationships between Tucows, OpenSRS and DomainDirect are.

I know that Register.com's questionnaire is trying to liken Tucows and
DomainDirect as being synomynous but they aren't in my mind. My guess is
that Domain Direct is a necessary evil that Tucows had to setup for all
those onetime callers who wanted to register domains "AT THE SOURCE" and yet
had no intentions of becoming an RSP. Also recommending any subset of RSPs
would be considered favourtism yadda yadda. (This of course is nothing
new. Even Compaq's tech support line will direct people to their own direct
sales if a client chooses the correct (from our standpoint "incorrect" :)
menu options.)

OpenSRS are purists putting the procedures and software in place to service
the registration of domains whilst adhering to methodology that allows for
both the correction of "features" as they're found as well as augmenting the
system to incorporate new features desired by RSPs and their clients. This
religious order of progamming zealots and evangelical "one set of rules for
all registrars" holy warriors fighting the good fight with ICAAN and others
is untainted by such evils as marketing, business models, making systems pay
for their costs etc. These black arts are left to Tucows personnel (one
reportedly going by the name of "Jacqui") so OpenSRS types can maintain
their vow of devotion to the art of domain registration. There are those
who state that there really aren't any humans at OpenSRS but actually a bank
of sophisticated AI projects madly attempting to address every whim of the
evil Tucows overlords. This of course can be spotted by the people on this
list who have @tucows.com email addresses but I for one don't buy this
theory. I have it on very good authority that Scott Allan is in fact a real
humanoid life form with actual sightings to confirm this.

Is this pretty much an accurate picture of the structure of the empire? :)
