Hello,

Sorry, this is going to be a bit long but I want to cover all of the facts.

I have a client with a fairly good .ca domain which expired March 14. They
have been trying to get the domain which is registered at another tucows
reseller transferred to us. The owner used to have the equivalent .on.ca
which he dropped when he got the .ca name, however, he never updated his
email address so now the admin email is not current. He obviously never got
the renewal notice from the other reseller and didn't know there was a
problem until the domain stopped working. He asked us to transfer it, but I
told him I couldn't do anything unless his email address was updated. He
did have the tucows login and tried to update his email address, however he
didn't have the CIRA account number and password so he wasn't able to
complete the request.

We were told by opensrs support to have him fax them a request to update the
email address along with government ID which apparently he sent through last
saturday. I know one week is not enough time to do this as it usually takes
a minimum of two weeks with all of the confirmations that CIRA requires. My
suggestion to the client was to go back to the original reseller and simply
renew the domain with them for another year. Heres the clincher, the
reseller is refusing to renew the domain because the admin email is not
correct! I can't believe that, but that is what the client says. The
domain will probably be released by CIRA on Sunday.

Any staff at Opensrs reading this I would be really appreciative if you can
suggest a way out of this...I'm worried he will lose the domain. Also, what
is the procedure for registering the dropped domains at CIRA? We just try
to put it through like a normal registration? Is there still a list on the
CIRA website that has a list of the expired names?

I'll notify support on this also, but it's now the weekend ... and of course
the client didn't get in touch with me until tonight (sigh).

Thanks,

Heather
