register.cgi problems

I'm recently installed the newest version v2.53 and notice the register.cgi
is still receiving an error of Can't use string ("HASH(0x8408108)") as a
HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at register.cgi line 324. From searching
the discuss archives i notice this a problem since 2.46...  Is this going to
be fixed?  I know it was stated only reg_system.cgi is recommended by why
are you including a script that doesn't work?
