US and Name Servers

Why is it when I go into the manage interface, the name server ip's do not show? Also I am trying to add a name server but I get this error:   Unable to update nameservers: Command failed: unable to verify existence of nameserver   Does it take 48 hours for the US domain to propagate? They were changing in seconds????
