Obstacles like that will not stem the inconsiderate greed which is the real source of this crap. A good dose of communism for about half a century would probably be a more effective deterrent. Failing that, widespread use of solutions like the automatic contact address changer at a number of other registrars are helpful, since they expire harvested addresses before most spammers have a chance to use them. We've also set up something that runs registrants' mail through the spam filters we use on our own mail server, courtesy of procmail and a two-line perl script that looks up contact records in a local MySQL database. http://www.it.ca/services/addressprivacy.php gives you want the consumer-level details. There are two approaches to stoping spam from hitting your mailbox. One is to stop the spammers from sending it through political activism, lobbying governments, and getting ICANN to stop futzing with pesky annoyances like anticompetitiveness in favour of this issue. The other is to implement tools to deal with spam as it enters or is delivered on your server. Pick the method you think will work better for you. -- Paul Chvostek <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Operations / Abuse / Whatever +1 416 598-0000 it.canada - hosting and development http://www.it.ca/
