I think I understand what the majority of you are getting at. By parsing information from a third-party source, we are exposing ourselves to their limitations.
Still, it feels extraordinarily redundant to me to build and manage a universal whois service of our own when others, like UWHOIS.COM and ALLWHOIS.COM are alreading providing such a service. I only recently discovered UWHOIS.COM and -- guess what -- it doesn't have a problem with our OpenSRS domains. Do the aforementioned perl classes and php scripts provide WHOIS for every TLD? I suppose I could translate it to ColdFusion....
