I am a private business, not a public one.. I can do whatever I want in
this regard..

I'm not a lawyer either, but I really do not think that this is a case
that would be lost in court. AOL is a different story.. I suppose if we
had 22 million users and were a pulic company it might be a different
case. We just do not have the volume to cause any damage IMHO.. I am
just trying to protect my customers, and our company the best that I can.

The thing is, we do have a lot of customers and it is impossible to keep
track of every domain customer, etc.. And we did have a number of
customers dooped by these guys. I remember one in particular that
called me 1 minute after he had his card run over the phone. He had no
idea until he paid for his renewal that he was switching registrars.
The hell of it is, and the reason I real think that we are doing nothing
wrong in directing customers to that site is the fact that DROA is
charging people more to make the switch. At least in our case, if we
were misdirecting a customer only to keep them on board and pay more for
a domain, I suppose I could find a problem in that. All I am doing is
protecting our current customers. DROA charges more than we do on
volume years, so where is the advantage in switching to them? There is
not one.. They are defrauding and misleading people. I have over 200 of
these damn letters from these guys on my desk, and they read like an
official document, the urge you to make sure your domain does not lapse,
and NO WHERE do they state clearly that they are asking you to become
their customer by switching from your current regsitrar. That said,
until I'm proven otherwise, DNS re-directs will stay in place.
