What *I* would like to know is HOW they got a patent, or even had the audacity to file a patent, on this!!!!!! NOTHING is new! Corporations, such as Microsoft, are basically proxies! they are UNnatural persons created under the law to serve as an alternate identity for one or a group of people. The ONLY way in which it is different from a DBA is that it is legally recognized as different from the persons it acts on behalf of, and is treated slightly different. Heck, even DBAs can be used which obscure things. So, the idea of proxies is not new.
Even the commercial exploitation of your own DBA type persona for registering another entity's domain is not new. Look at Name Zero. They registered names for NOTHING, but they owned them. I guess a lot of people decided against it, because they aren't doing this anymore. Frankly, I wouldn't trust a company to register as the owner. If I wanted full anonymity I could get a corporation and register a public mail box. Granted, it is unique to a state and registered. Then AGAIN, you could get a DBA. This is NOT necessarily unique, and is registered in a county. Then again, you could have a dba own a company that has a dba that owns a company that owns the domain. People could be up a long time trying to find out who you are.
