wel i dont; know - thats PR - public relations and i don't trust PR. I
rmember they let go some people not so long ago and downsized
considerably. does anyone remember that.

maybe thats the problem. they resolve their tlds within us namespace and
of course the servers won't get hit with bogus queries. i would really
love to see the data from caida. frankly i'm sure new.net is somewhere in
the dump. even origins with 500 sources are an indication of significant
activity within the dns.

of course you can and no you can't. in fact if you do this transmission
not only proves civil liability but possibly intent to malice and that
would place you in criminal court for the illegal appropriation of our
namespace.

in fact this happened to us. one evil bugger many here will remember -
one thomas goolnik - a peddler of questionable reputation - attempted just
that. he first asked me if he could be a .god registrar. i said no. we
don't want registrars just yet. were ready = but there's no hurry.

so what happened is the bugger went out and started pddling .god domain
via spam. not only intentionally violating our proprietary right - but
giving a bad name as spammers. this of course was intollerable behaviour
and instead of proceeding via civil injunction proceedings we elected
proceeding by criminal complaint and had scotland yard all ready to give
Mr. Goolnik a bunk in the queens gaol next to some big burly boy who found
him pretty.

of course this did not happen. his barrister spoke with our barrister,
mr. goolnik was advised warned and counciled, and the illegal .god domain
sales came to an end. our legals were even used by the ftc to develop a
case against mr. goolnik.

oh yes - tlds are protected by some very old legislation. the internet
maybe new - but the products it produces have been around for a long long
time. its a data habit we've had since we've started collecting and
compiling data - babylon comes to mind.
