Indeed, all of my Windows NT/Windows 2000 machines have been up for 84+ days at this point. It would be more, but I had to apply some patches 84 days ago that required a reboot. My personal Windows XP machines are up for months at a time and never lock up. They reboot when I tell them to.
I have a *nix machine that's been up for 328+ days now. In my experience, Windows NT -- when properly configured and managed -- is extremely stable. The only thing that irks me is that applying updates often requires a reboot, which is not usually the case with *nix. Everyone who can should do unix. My average uptime in windows was about 48 hours before a blue screen crash. In unix 8:18pm up 72 days, 15:18, 9 users, load average: 0.02, 0.10, 0.08 72 days and counting. I remember the last time the system booted - there was a power failure. And to think of it - i really don't remember the last time i rebooted the system intentionally for any reason. regards joe
