I see it for lots of domains (easydns.org for one).  Doesn't it just
mean that that domain's whois information hasn't been transferred from
the old registrar into the thick PIR whois database?

You look for the "Referral URL:www.opensrs.org" tag to find the "old"
registry that still has the whois info.
