Yes, this happens on all of our .org domains and I believe it is the correct behavior.

I took it to mean that PIR isn't hosting authoritative contact info for the domain, and that your whois client needs to go look at the registrar for the data -- kind of like a lookup at crsnic.net for a .com domain.

BW Whois (http://whois.bw.org) gives me the right answer for every .org I have tried, as it follows the pointers from PIR's whois to OpenSRS or NetSol.

Jo,

Please send me the domain off list and I'll have a quick peek for you.
Anyone else on the list seeing this type of weirdness?

Cheers,

James

Subject: .org - what does CONTACT NOT AUTHORITATIVE mean?

The .org name in question was created in Nov 99, expires Nov 2003, is with NetSol. NetSol has sent client a renewal notice already ?

WHOIS at PIR has this notation:

Registrant name: CONTACT NOT AUTHORITATIVE

- is that an NSI issue or a .org issue ?
- will this affect our ability to transfer it to our OpenSRS account ?
