I took it to mean that PIR isn't hosting authoritative contact info for the domain, and that your whois client needs to go look at the registrar for the data -- kind of like a lookup at crsnic.net for a .com domain.
BW Whois (http://whois.bw.org) gives me the right answer for every .org I have tried, as it follows the pointers from PIR's whois to OpenSRS or NetSol.

Jo,
Please send me the domain off list and I'll have a quick peek for you. Anyone else on the list seeing this type of weirdness?
Cheers,

The .org name in question was created in Nov 99, expires Nov 2003, is with NetSol. NetSol has sent client a renewal notice already ?
WHOIS at PIR has this notation:
Registrant name: CONTACT NOT AUTHORITATIVE
- is that an NSI issue or a .org issue ? - will this affect our ability to transfer it to our OpenSRS account ?
