I believe texas based companies are required to pay sales tax. There are 10
states in the union that are very unfriendly to tech compainies.
And thus why they do it.

Not that I have any affliation with RackShack but they have been around
houston for a long time and seem to run a clean shop, where as we've never
had an issue with them and everyone there has been nothing but helpful,
within their isp division (ev1.net).

Thanks,

It's a promo. If they're willing to lose money for promotional purposes,
there's little difference between losing, say $3 (if they could negotiate an
$8
price) and losing $5.

A couple of sleazy things I notice:

1. There's no mention of it being a promo, nor any mention of what the
regular
pricing is or will be. You think they'll be selling $5 registrations
indefinitely?

2. New registrations are for a max of one year (minimizes the damage, eh?).

3. There's no bulk transfer. (see #2)

4. They charge tax(?). Anyone else in the US charging taxes on domain
registrations? Do you think RackShack will be remitting that tax to the
proper
state treasuries?

Oh well, Tucows can't pick and choose their customers, can they?
