There is a HUGE difference, IMHO, between global and international. The Internet is global not international. We (we being people of the Earth) have never done anything truly global. We have tended to use the nation-state as the basis for organizing. This has some benefits in some contexts, but not in dealing with the Internet.


The good thing about ICANN is it truly is a forum where technical, business and policy come together under one umbrella. The exercise is unique and it is going down a virgin path. It will take awhile to get right. The stance taken on SiteFinder is an encouraging step in the right direction.
