let me see -- how much does a .ca through CIRA cost? is it still $17. And a .ph is still $35. So much for your terrific non-profit companies. "Should" is an awful word -- you should take Econ101. You should sell your domains for your cost. Competition is a wonderful thing. The problem with VeriSign is they never competed -- it was all handed to them, almost like -- yes -- a non-profit. Which in reality, is what they will turn into, via their inability to compete.

It should be taken over by a non-profit organization like the CIRA in Canada. Revenue made should be to just cover the cost of running and maintaining the service efficiently.

Nothing quoted there has any adverse impact on me or anyone I serve from a technical perspective in the process of operating a DNS server.

Mail will get 550 responses from their SMTP bouncer.
Yes, spam checks will fail, but that has nothing to do with interfering with DNS.

I find the arguments about intelligent search belonging in the client to be flimsy at best -- for myself, it's downright incorrect, as I'd much rather have server-side search than depend on the variation in clients.

I don't disagree with the political issue on its face -- well, in fact I do, as I'd prefer to see registration as a tax-supported government monopoly with competition removed from the mix, but that's not the point here.
