Chuck...

The true story is what you tell with regards to the new registrars.

They are giving name business and a bad name by their tactics, and are
widely known for only being in this business for scalping names whenever
and wherever they can.

But as far the reference to Real Estate, having been in the field myself
for a couple of years, I will refer you to the remarks I just made to
Loren's comments.

And add that R.E. is "real property" in a sense that domain names are
not. Taxes are not assessed on names, obviously, which is the only
reason the "tax man" ever has anything TO sell. It is also the only
reason the state gives a rip about it and developed the process of
laying liens on the titles.

Suffice it to say that I still believe that ownership and any right to
profit on it leaves the hands of the person when thet "forfiet" their
rights upon expiration of the term of their "ownership", according to
the current rules.

So why is an auction of the expired names even on the table to discuss??
Why aren't the names simply going back into the open pool of names that
anyone can register??

As I wrote in my last post, I think auctioning off expired names by any
organization or group is a fundamental departure from the current and
accepted methods. Auction the name before it expires, or simply let them
go back into the open pool of available names.
