Thanks for the thread on this. We're certainly aware of the platform concerns with Platypus and have heard about it from prospects. As you know, Tucows acquired Platypus with the Boardtown purchase and our primary concerns this year were to make sure the existing customers continued to receive upgrades and to integrate Platypus with OpenSRS (coming soon). Now we're looking forward at expanded features (for web hosters, for example) as well as at platform independence. What would you think of a Tucows hosted solution to address that or is it critical for you to host your own client/server app?

But to make it a not-so-religous arguement -- for a Unix-only shop it means
setting up a Windows server.


I think thats part of the issue.
We do provide windows hosting and SQL server for customrs but my experience of it has not been good.
Approx 6 to 10 times more work involved to keep it running securely and stable-y.
I can factor that into what I charge customers, but if its for our own use then thats just time and money lost.
