Hello: We recently lost my wife's engagement ring from the master bedroom of our condo. The thief also went through boxes in a drawer, picking out the one that had a small stone. And I must mention the coins, regular coins, a fistful that have been taken, but not the rolls of quaternions near the back of the same dresser. Coins and a GPS unit have also been taken from one of our cars.
This sounds to me like a local thief, regularly checking if things are secure. The thief is also is not a pro: lots of electronics have remained in the house, from the apple corporation, mac mini/macbook/iPad. It sounds to me like the work of a troubled kid. Other people have reported coins missing from cars. We will set up a simple honey pot, a ziplock bag of coins right where we know they have looked before. Has anyone setup a motion detection camera for the home? I figure we just need to cover the bedroom. We are going to change the locks, but this person appears to be a lock checker, not a lock picker.
